24. Sharon Hocking

Painting

Sharon is a part-time primary art teacher in Bendigo, where she finds inspiration in the way young children approach creativity. She loves how unselfconscious and free they are with their ideas—never worried about what their work looks like, just fully absorbed in the joy of making. Their fearless imagination and willingness to explore without hesitation constantly remind her of the purpose of art, and often influence her own creative process.

In her personal practice, Sharon creates bold, expressive artworks using bright colours, layered textures, and fine detail. She is drawn to abstract florals and bold landscapes all brought to life through rich layers of colour and movement. She often uses a variety of mediums, acrylic paints, charcoal, oil sticks and inks to create some interesting marks and textures. Sharon’s studio in King street is open by appointment.
