2. Judith Barowski
Painting
Jude’s love of painting began at Bendigo Girls’ High School and blossomed during her teaching years in Swan Hill, where she held her first exhibition. Born in Bendigo and raised in Huntly, she was inspired by Mallee sunsets, Huntly’s white clay heaps, and the hills of Pyalong and Tooborac, elements that shaped her vibrant, semi-abstract landscapes.
After a 30-year pause due to lack of studio space, she now paints from her garage, letting colour lead the way. Her works are semi-abstract landscapes, imagined, not painted on site, and each canvas is a spontaneous journey. Though she delights in the creative process, she jokes, “I feel like the woman who lived in a shoe, with so many paintings she didn’t know what to do!”
